The Story of Psych with Mike

Psych with Mike began as a single appearance on The Dave Glover Show radio program in St. Louis, Missouri. That single appearance turned into a regular spot and eventually into Psych with Mike becoming its own show.

The radio show ended after one year because of a family medical crisis.

The show was reborn after a short hiatus as the Psych with Mike podcast and added Brett Newcomb.

Psych with Mike aims to be the best clinically based program about psychology on the internet! As Brett likes to say: “Easy listening with an informational twist”

Meet The Hosts

Dr Michael Mahon

Dr. Michael E. Mahon is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, Professor, Author and, Professional Speaker who has been practicing individual, adolescent and couples psychotherapy for twenty years. He has been in the field of behavioral health for thirty years. Dr. Mahon has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Missouri Baptist University, Webster University (where he directed the graduate program in counseling psychology) and currently at Washington University. Dr. Mahon believes that the ability to regulate emotion is the core requirement for good mental health. Michael’s ability to relate complex biological and psychological concepts in no nonsense language that is understandable for the lay person is his greatest strength as an educator and a therapist.

Mike began public speaking early in his career and has presented to large audiences of corporate executives, educators and parents. His ability to engage an audience in plain language and hold their interest made him successful. These skills translated well to the radio when in May of 2016 Mike made an appearance on the Dave Glover Show to speak about his own history with addiction. Because of the overwhelming positive feedback Dave asked him back and Mike soon became a regular on the DGS. The success of those segments lead directly to the development of the radio show Psych with Mike.

The Psych with Mike radio show ended in December of 2017 after a family medical crisis. Mike and Brett decided to bring the show back as a podcast in late 2018 to be able to reach even more people than terrestrial radio is capable of. After a brief but steep learning curve the shows audio quality evolved to be on par with that of any professionally produced program.

Mike lives in Jefferson County Missouri with his wife and two dogs. He has an adult son who is married and has a successful career in the auto industry and a daughter in medical school.

Mr. Brett Newcomb

Brett Newcomb, MA, LPC has 35 years of experience in private practice as a family therapist. He has worked with Dr. Kathy Maupin for years to help her patients deal with the psychological and marital ramifications of hormone imbalance and the necessary adjustments following successful treatment.

In his first career Brett was Teacher of The Year at Lafayette High School where he taught sociology, psychology, anthropology and history over a 15 year period. After going to Graduate School he rose from adjunct professor of counseling to be World Wide Director of the Counseling program at Webster University. In this capacity he was responsible for the faculty and curriculum of multiple domestic campuses as well as the international campus in Geneva, Switzerland.

Brett is an excellent speaker and has consulted with schools around the country and presented workshops for major international corporations. Brett is the co-author of two books, The Secret Female Hormone, and Got Testosterone? written with Dr. Maupin. He is the co-host of two weekly podcasts on the internet. Bio-Balancehealth.com, which he hosts with Dr. Maupin, has over 450 episodes on YouTube and the apple podcast app, and Psych with Mike, which he co-hosts with Dr. Michael Mahon.
