The World Is Changing
Never in the history of humanity have we faced so many challenges simultaneously. From pandemics to human-influenced climate change, to political/cultural polarization, we face a myriad of potential trials. These situations can be disasters or opportunities depending on the individual’s perception. My goal is to work with individuals, groups, communities, and possibly the world, to realize the full potential of what it means to be human.
Through psychotherapy, teaching, public speaking, writing, but mostly through example, I hope to help others obtain for themselves the tools they need to reach their true and full potential.
If you are a CEO, a decision maker in your organization, an athlete, or a human being and you would like to explore the totality of your potential or that of your organization, contact me to see if I can help.

Psychotherapy
When I left grad school, I was squarely in the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy camp (specifically Rational Emotive Therapy by Albert Ellis). Since then I have evolved to be more psychodynamic in my approach. I believe that emotional regulation is at the heart of psychological pathology. Informed by the work of Heinz Kohut (Self Psychology) and Carl Jung (Analytical Psychology), I strive to help client regain emotional equalibrium.
Public Speaking
I have decades of experience developing programming and delivering it to audiences. This is another area where education and experience matter. I often think of the commercial with Pinocchio as a motivational speaker. Good public speaking is about more than just making the audience feel good for a short time. Comedy shows and concerts are great at that but do not give individuals the tools to make real and lasting change. I can do that.
Psych with Mike
Psych with Mike has been a great resource for those in the field of psychology as well as anyone interested in how the mind works and how therapy is done. Psych with Mike has been called the “best clinically-based show about psychology on the internet.” Even if that was said by me, the show is pretty good. Check it out and see if you can find something relevant to you that you can apply to your life today.

common questions
Psychotherapy (therapy) is in essence a relationship between an educated and skilled clinician and a client. My goal is to help my clients to develop and use better emotional regulation tools. This fosters greater resilience and the pursuit of that individual’s greatest potential.
While I do not accept insurance, many of my clients do use their “out of network” insurance benefits. Because I do not accept insurance, I work exclusively for my clients and not the faceless insurance bureaucracy. Please let me know if you have any questions about this and we can discuss it in more detail.
While there is no definitive rule about the frequency of sessions, most clients find that weekly sessions work best. Often the length between sessions may be extended towards the end of therapy. As with most things, however, consistency is the most important factor. A strong commitment to the therapy process on the part of the client will yield the best results.
Yes, with very limited restrictions. There are strict limits to professional confidentiality, such as statements about self-harm or hurting someone else. Or statements revolving around child and/or elder abuse. These limits are detailed in the Informed Consent you sign before beginning therapy and can be discussed in the first session.
